Kansans turned out along nearly 200 miles of lonely roads and highways Tuesday afternoon to honor a fallen police officer who was making his final trip home, from Wichita to Hays. Salina Firefighters and Police Officers gathered on the Crawford Street Overpass. They displayed a large flag, and saluted. Citizens gathered with them, and also on the Magnolia Street Overpass, on exit ramps, and on side roads, some of them holding flags, to salute Hays Police Sgt Scott Heimann.💙

Officer Colin Bjarni Murphy passed away unexpectedly on September 22, 2025, at the age of 31.

Colin graduated from Nashoba Valley Technical High School in 2013. He went on to proudly serve for six years with the Army Reserve’s 94th Military Police. He continued his lifelong commitment to helping people as a corrections officer at FMC Devens and later as a police officer for the Veterans Affairs in Jamaica Plain.
