Officer Injured in Overnight Officer Involved Shooting

      On 9/21/2025 officers located a stolen vehicle at Rally’s on Virginia St just before 1:30 am. As officers approached the vehicle, two suspects immediately fled. While fleeing, one of the suspects pulled a firearm and shot at officers striking one officer. Officers returned fire and struck the suspect. The officer and suspect were taken to local hospitals for medical treatment. The second suspect, a juvenile, fled the scene. The juvenile suspect was located and taken into custody.

We have received a huge outpouring of support and prayers for our officer. We are deeply appreciative of those thoughts and prayers. Our officer is in stable condition at this time. Further updates will come. I will hold a press briefing tomorrow to address the specifics of the incident. On September 16, SPD conducted targeted traffic enforcement in response to potential car meets and sideshow activity. Traffic officers on our motor teams, patrol officers, and our Air Unit with assisting agencies Air Units, focused on vehicle and pedestrian safety throughout the city.

During the operation, officers monitored and assisted with two large car meets. By the end of the enforcement effort, officers had conducted 64 traffic stops, issued 25 citations, towed three vehicles, and made two arrests – one of which involved the suspect seen riding a motorized bike illegally – without a helmet, captured in a video by our Air Unit, during a pursuit. 

Sideshow activity is illegal and poses serious risks to participants, bystanders, and surrounding communities. It can also result in significant property damage and disrupt neighborhoods. SPD remains committed to proactive vehicle enforcement and will continue working to identify offenders and hold them accountable.
