Prayers for the two Los Angeles County deputies who were injured in the line of duty overnight.🙏🏻

Paramedics rushed two Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies to the hospital after a hit-and-run crash that resulted in the arrest of a suspect.

The collision happened in South Los Angeles at the intersection of West 98th Street and South Vermont Avenue, according to the LA County Sheriff's Department. The impact of the crash sent the deputies' patrol car into a power pole. 

Deputies said a man tried to run away from the crash site but was quickly apprehended. It's unclear if Good Samaritans detained the driver until authorities arrived or if other deputies arrested the man shortly after the crash. 

The man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and hit-and-run, causing injury. He's yet to be identified publicly.

Both deputies were released from the hospital by Tuesday morning.

While we may have had a tough end to Labor Day weekend, overall shooting incidents and shooting victims are at the lowest levels in recorded history for the first eight months of the year.

➡️Burglary was at a record-low for the month of August, and retail theft is down a significant 22%.

Our focus has been on taking illegal guns off the streets, arresting violent gang members, and deploying cops on foot posts where they are needed most. As a result:

➡️Our detectives have carried out a record high 55 gang-related takedowns this year — arresting 396 gang members and associates.

➡️We’ve taken more than 3,685 guns off the streets this year alone.

And in our summer zones, we have seen consistent crime declines this summer during deployment hours:

➡️Major crime is down 19%.

➡️Shootings are down 51%.

➡️Felony assaults are down 25%.

'LIKE A WAR ZONE': More than 100 vehicles participated in a street takeover in Secaucus that saw police vehicles come under attack.

“Our officers came under attack last night and I will not tolerate this unrest,” said Secaucus' police chief after officers were surrounded by over 50 people and showered with fireworks while breaking up a street takeover.

NEW: Police are searching for the person who stabbed a restaurant worker under the Santa Monica Pier.

Santa Monica Police got the call Sunday evening about an assault near Pier Pizza and Subs, but when they got to the restaurant, the suspect was gone. Officers found the employee with several stab wounds. The victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay.

Citrus County Deputy Andy Lahera is once again fighting for his life, nearly two and a half years after a devastating line-of-duty injury.

Ever since then, his recovery has been slow but steady. Recently, he began talking again and even moving the right side of his body after years of paralysis.

But weeks ago, he was rushed back into the ICU with what his wife Michelle described as “the worst pneumonia I’ve ever seen.”
