Chicago police officers were already on scene directing traffic and trying to control a large street gathering when they reported hearing shots, including automatic gunfire, shortly after 1 a.m.

While federal assistance gives us a boost, we must repeal the misguided Comprehensive Policing and Justice Reform Act in order to make these changes permanent.

In the month of August 2025, there were 10 carjackings (6 of which were before federal control). The last time DC had 10 or fewer carjackings in a month was March of 2020 - more than FIVE YEARS AGO.

To put that in perspective, here are the carjacking numbers from the month of August back to 2020:

August 2020: 43 carjackings
August 2021: 49 carjackings
August 2022: 40 carjackings
August 2023: 88 carjackings
August 2024: 39 carjackings
August 2025: 10 carjackings

We must act to fix the broken criminal justice system in DC so these results can be made permanent.

NYC: Two firefighters were injured in a 2-Alarm blaze Sunday night in Brooklyn.

Around 9:30 pm, flames broke out in the cellar of 27th Street home and spread to the first floor, prompting a Second Alarm response. FDNY says both firefighters were taken to local hospitals with minor injuries.

Florida: A Lake Wales police officer and his K-9 partner are recovering after being dragged by a man who tried to flee from a traffic stop, officials said.

The officer tried to stop 36-year-old Marlon Arrindell before 8 a.m. Sunday on U.S. Highway 27. Arrindell was allegedly going more than 30 miles per hour over the speed limit. 

K-9 Bolo was released to help the officer, but Arrindell was able to get back into his car and tried to drive away, "dragging both the officer and canine through the parking lot."

Arrindell was quickly found by other officers about a mile away. He tried to run away but injured himself while trying to go over a high barbed wire fence.

Officials said he was arrested and is being charged with driving while his license was suspended, fleeing to elude, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer with violence, injuring a police K-9 and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The officer and K-9 Bolo were treated for their injuries.
