The Plumas National Forest in California has seen 29 new wildfires since the lightning bust came through the region. Of those, firefighters have been able to contain 23 fires as of this evening.

The Forest expects more holdover fires to pop up in the coming days as a warmer trend arrives and the small smoldering fires show themselves. There is also a chance for more lightning in the coming days. Here is a look from the McRae Fire in the Plumas National Forest. IA resources have been busy.

A California man convicted of multiple sex crimes involving children failed to show up for his sentencing date after he was released on bail, according to the El Dorado County District Attorney's office.

BREAKING OVERNIGHT: A toddler is safe after she was found wandering alone in diapers through one of Santa Clarita’s busiest intersections overnight.

The incident unfolded shortly after 10 p.m. when multiple 911 callers reported seeing a small child, believed to be between 3 and 5 years old, darting through traffic near Magic Mountain Parkway and McBean Parkway — an eight-lane intersection that sees heavy nighttime traffic.

Teenager Julius Rivera spotted the girl, wearing only a diaper, a shirt, and a backpack, with a small dog in tow. Rivera called 911 while keeping her in sight and eventually guided her toward the River Oaks shopping center outside a Target store.

“She was just wearing a diaper and a shirt and a backpack and she had her little dog and her iPad,” Rivera told Key News Network. “It was late at night and it’s a little girl wandering by herself.”

Deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station responded and secured the child and her dog with the help of Good Samaritans. For about an hour, deputies worked to trace her home before locating her mother, who was reportedly intoxicated inside a residence about half a mile away.

The mother was arrested and transported to the sheriff’s station. The case remains under investigation.

BREAKING OVERNIGHT: Two deputies with Constable Mark Herman’s Office are currently in surgery after being struck by a suspected impaired driver on the North Sam Houston Tollway.

They are being treated for serious leg, hip, and head injuries. The injured male Corporal has proudly served Precinct 4 for more than four years, and the injured female Deputy has served our community for more than two years.

Both deputies were performing their duties to protect and serve when this tragic incident occurred.

We ask the community to keep them and their families in your thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time.🙏🏻
