BREAKING OVERNIGHT: 11 people were shot, three of them died after a shooting broke out at a crowded nightclub in New York City overnight, the NYPD commissioner said.

NYPD Police Commissioner Jessica Tish said the shooting occurred around 3:30 a.m. at Taste of the City Lounge, located off Franklin Avenue in Crown Heights.

Victims range in ages between 27 and 61; the three people killed were a 27-year-old male, a 35-year-old male and a third male who's age wasn't immediately known. Tisch said the remaining eight victims were taken to nearby hospitals in Brooklyn with non-life-threatening injuries.

The shooting began after a dispute at the crowded club, the commissioner said. She said officers recovered at least 36 shell casings from the lounge on Sunday morning, as well as a firearm that was discovered in a nearby street.

The NYPD was looking for multiple gunmen Sunday; there were no arrests immediately following the shooting.

Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands continue to be impacted by rainbands from Hurricane Erin this morning.

He reportedly crashed into two government vehicles and injured one federal officer in the process.

Press release from the Illinois State Police regarding an intoxicated driver who failed to move over and struck a state trooper's patrol car, injuring the trooper, in DuPage County early Sunday morning:

Illinois State Police (ISP) officers investigated a traffic crash that occurred on I-88 westbound at milepost 139 in DuPage County involving an ISP trooper.

The trooper was assisting another motorist when their squad car was struck by a driver who failed to move over.

On August 17, 2025, at approximately 4:02 a.m., an ISP trooper was parked on the right shoulder of I-88 behind a tractor-trailer that was broken down; the squad car had its emergency lights activated.

A Tesla failed to move over and struck the rear passenger side of the trooper’s squad car, pushing it forward into the rear of the tractor-trailer.

The trooper’s squad car was towed from the scene due to disabling damage sustained from the crash.

The trooper was inside of the squad car at the time of the crash and sustained injuries.

NEW DETAILS: Florida Highway Safety reports undocumented 18-wheeler driver Harjinder Singh entered the U.S. illegally in 2018 but was able to get a CDL in California. Singh is accused of killing three as a result of making an illegal U-turn on a highway.

Most likely Singh got his CA CDL as a result of Assembly Bill 60.

According to CalMatters, California lawmakers first passed AB 60, called the Safe and Responsible Drivers Act, in 2013, as part of a broad effort to adopt more inclusive policies toward immigrants, to decriminalize their daily lives and maximize their contributions to the economy, experts said. 

Since the law took effect in 2015, more than a million undocumented immigrants, out of an estimated 2 million, have received licenses, and more than 700,000 have renewed them. 

Once an illegal immigrant obtains a CDL in California, it allows them to legally operate commercial vehicles within the state and potentially across state lines.

Besides California, other states have followed suit.  Here’s the reported list of states where illegal immigrants can get driver’s licenses:
