UPDATE: A Baton Rouge Police officer remains listed in critical condition as of July 3rd after an “intentional, targeted hit” on the 23-year veteran of BRPD, Sgt. Caleb Eisworth.

The latest update released on July 3 says his right foot needed to be amputated, which was done Thursday morning. The amputation was successful but the officer’s condition remains critical, yet stable, the statement read.

Multiple firefighters were injured Friday morning after fireworks unintentionally detonated on 3 Mile Mountain, prompting the cancellation of West Wendover’s 4th of July fireworks display.

City officials said the incident occurred during the morning hours of Independence Day.

“All city crews involved with the accidental set-off of fireworks are safely off of 3 Mile Mountain,” the city confirmed.

West Wendover Mayor Jasie Holm released a statement offering prayers “to the injured firefighter and for the safety of all our firefighters and public workers.”

The firefighters sustained non-life-threatening injuries. They were assessed and treated.
