Wisconsin: One person was shot and killed and two others were shot during the early morning hours of July 3, including a Shorewood police officer who was struck in his ballistic vest and treated and released from the hospital.

The Shorewood officer is the third Milwaukee-area officer to be struck by gunfire while responding to a call in a week.

A shelter-in-place order for nearby Shorewood residents was lifted about 7:20 a.m., about an hour and a half after emergency alerts were sent to residents’ phones.

But Shorewood Police Chief Heather Wurth said officers across Milwaukee County were still searching for the suspect.

No officers fired their guns in the incident.

Wurth said she was grateful the officer was wearing a protective vest.

A Madera County Sheriff's Office, California Deputy was injured Tuesday during a violent encounter with a wanted man. Just after 9:30 a.m., deputies attempted to arrest a 40 year old wanted felon, following confirmation of an outstanding warrant and a probation hold.

The day before, the suspect had been contacted during a separate investigation into a nearby fire.

Authorities said the criminal violently resisted arrest, striking the deputy multiple times in the head and kicking him before fleeing the scene. The suspect was arrested later by other Deputies.

Emergency medical personnel treated the deputy at the scene for swelling to the head and he is expected to recover.
