OHV COLLISION
On Tuesday April 22, 2025, around 3:58P.M., two Morongo Basin Station deputies utilized their off-highway patrol vehicles in an attempt to locate a wanted felon who is known to frequent the unincorporated area of Joshua Tree. During the search, one of the off-highway patrol vehicles, occupied by one deputy, was involved in a traffic collision with a SUV in the area of Center Avenue and Shifting Sands Drive.

We are extremely thankful to the driver of the SUV who tended to our injured deputy and we sincerely appreciate all the well wishes received from our community members. We are relieved to report our deputy was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released. No other injuries were reported.

Our agency is cooperating with the California Highway Patrol who are conducting the traffic collision investigation. Although both deputies were certified in OHV patrol and were wearing protective equipment, our department will conduct a comprehensive internal review of the incident and ensure our personnel have the necessary training and understanding of equipment to help prevent future collisions. Our department remains committed to providing responsible policing and delivering the best service to our community. For full transparency, you can view our off-highway policy on our department’s website.

Chance of weekend rain moves into the SoCal forecast. Below-average temperatures and morning drizzle appear to be setting the stage for some weekend showers across Southern California.

Northern California: Expect the cooling trend to continue on Thursday, with breezy conditions and highs in the 50s and 60s. Heading into the weekend, showers could return to the region.
