An Othello Police officer was injured in a crash Saturday night while trying to divert traffic around a different crash, according to a press release from the Washington State Patrol.

The officer, who was in a fully marked Othello Police car with its emergency lights on, was reportedly parked in the roadway to divert traffic around a prior crash about two miles north of Othello on SR 17.

At 9:40 p.m., a car heading southbound failed to yield for the police car, hitting it and bringing both cars to rest in the southbound lanes.

The other driver was uninjured, however is facing a negligent driving charge.

Our thoughts are with the Rockford Illinois Police Department after one of their K9 officers was shot and injured during a traffic stop near a gas station on Saturday. 🙏🏽

According to officials, a suspect opened fire, hitting the K9 in the paw and shoulder. The brave pup was rushed to an emergency vet and is now recovering. Thankfully, a full recovery is expected. Wishing this four-legged hero a speedy healing!

Yesterday, Officer Gourdine, Officer Hardgrove, and K9 Jesus visited Wonder Play Cafe for their “Inspiring Hands” event, where they had the chance to connect with the next generation of community members.

The event brought local community helpers like police officers, firefighters, veterinarians, doctors, nurses, and teachers together to inspire children with the important work they do. Officer Gourdine, Officer Hardgrove, and K9 Jesus shared a story, provided valuable safety tips, and introduced K9 Jesus, giving the kids a hands-on experience with their furry partner in crime-fighting.

The day was filled with fun activities including police-themed crafts, a sensory bin, and exciting police play-themed activities that kept the children engaged while learning about the people who help keep them safe.

We are so proud to continue building positive relationships within our community, one child at a time!

“Initially, I was disappointed in President Biden’s decision to commute the sentence of Mr. Sanders. I took office in 2009, so I was here and deferred to the federal government to prosecute Mr. Sanders at that time.
