Michigan: A 22-year-old male with a history of violence is back in custody and now facing additional charges after managing to briefly escape Detroit Police custody during transport from a medical check in the 4200 block of St. Antoine Street.

His time on the run was short thanks to fast action and sharp coordination. The suspect, who allegedly assaulted DPD officers during multiple parts of the arrest and transport, was quickly located and taken back into custody thanks to our Detroit Police Aviation Unit and coordinated efforts by officers on the ground. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident.

This outcome reflects the strength of our partnership with the community and the effectiveness of our technology in protecting both our officers and our neighborhoods.

South Carolina: Officials said about 21 students were hurt after a blown tire caused a school bus to flip while returning home from a field trip on Interstate 77 South in Chester County.

The crash happened after 2 p.m. on Thursday near Exit 55 (Highway 97) and all southbound lanes are blocked.

The three buses were from the Lexington County Schools District 2, and officials there said they were carrying students from Pine Ridge Middle School.

MS-13 GANG MEMBER ARRESTED

4/15-USBP in Portland, ME, apprehended a Salvadoran national and confirmed MS-13 gang member with a criminal history. The individual was previously arrested for possession of military-grade firearms and disturbing the peace abroad. Now in the U.S., he continues to be a menace with his recent arrest for public intoxication. He currently faces charges (212(a)(6)(A)(i)) for unlawful presence in the U.S. and removal proceedings under 8USC1229a.

Update: Two people were killed, and six others were injured in a shooting at Florida State University (FSU) on Thursday, authorities said. 

Police identified the suspected shooter as 20-year-old Phoenix Ikner, a student at the school. They also said his mother is a Sheriff's Deputy, and said Ikner used his mother's weapon in the killing.

His mother has been an officer for over 18 years and authorities say she has done a "tremendous job."

Authorities have said that the two who were killed were not FSU students.

The university and authorities are asking student, staff and faculty to call their loved ones if they haven’t already. The area is still considered an active crime scene.

Tragedy struck Florida State University today after reports of an active shooter near the Student Union. Law enforcement acted fast—neutralizing the threat and taking one suspect into custody. Multiple people have been injured. At least one life has been lost.

This is still an active investigation, and details continue to unfold. What we do know is this: the rapid response by officers from the Tallahassee Police Department, FDLE, federal partners, and campus security saved lives today.
