BREAKING OVERNIGHT:

Georgia: Last night Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene hosted her town hall meeting at the Acworth Community Center. The Acworth Police Department in conjunction with support from the Cobb County Police Department, Cobb County Sheriff’s Office, Kennesaw Police Department, and the Georgia State Patrol worked diligently to ensure the safety of all attendees, including Congresswoman Greene.

While preparing for the event, crime analysts discovered online posts which suggested the potential for disruptive behavior at the event. Plans were made in advance with this intelligence in mind.

Sadly, as soon as the Congresswoman began her presentation, several members of the audience became disruptive and created an imminent public safety threat for all in attendance. Their intentions were clear, to place the members of our
beloved police department in a no-win situation in front of numerous media outlets.

All attendees were pre-screened by Congresswoman Greene’s staff to ensure residency within the district she represents.

Approximately six attendees were escorted from the premises without issue. Three individuals were arrested, two of them requiring tasers to be deployed in the process. While attempting to remove the subjects from the event, officers
were threatened, physically resisted, and harmed in the process. One of those arrested provided identification that placed them outside of Congresswoman Greene’s district.

Arrested Individuals:
Nelms, Andrew Russell (W/M 40 YOA) of Atlanta
1. O.C.G.A. 16-5-23 – Simple Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer (M)
2. O.C.G.A. 16-10-24 - Obstruction of a Law Enforcement Officer (M)

Williams, Johnny Keith (B/M 45 YOA) of Dallas
3. O.C.G.A. 16-5-23 – Simple Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer (M)
4. O.C.G.A. 16-10-24 - Obstruction of a Law Enforcement Officer (F)

DAVIS, KIYANA NAME (W/F 28 YOA) of Dallas
1. City of Acworth Ordinance 54-11 – Vulgar Language (M)

We are grateful for those in attendance and those who conducted peaceful protests outside of the facility. The Police Department provided a designated area in proximity to the facility where many people peacefully exercised their
constitutionally protected First Amendment rights. It is disappointing that a very small number of people actively worked to create a temporary disruption to what was otherwise a completely peaceful event.

The City of Acworth will always do two things. One, we will stand behind the men and women that wear the uniform. Second, we will support elected representatives of any and all parties hosting events at our facilities. The purpose of this town hall was for Congresswoman Greene to communicate to her constituents, not to place others in danger.

NEW: Bond paperwork for the Texas murder suspect charged with stabbing a 17-year-old at a track meet shows he’s living in a large 4 bedroom home in a gated community estimated to be valued around $900K. Before a judge reduced Karmelo Anthony’s  $1 million bond which he posted hours later, his family and attorney said they were living pay check to pay check. A fundraiser has almost raised half a million dollars. It’s not clear if that money is going toward living in this new home. His attorney said earlier this week, “This family needs to be able to survive. There’s been a tremendous amount of pressure. I think at this point, living in a gated community, given everything, the safety of their younger children is very warranted. Security details and criminal defense are not cheap.”

Thank you to the voices behind the scenes.  Without your dedicated service,  public safety wouldn’t be possible.

This has to be the biggest pill our families have had to swallow but I know the love and compassion in our families will get us through. This will never get easier, but we'll learn to live with it.
