A deputy commander of Iran's Revolutionary Guards made the threat Thursday, adding that retaliatory action against Britain for detaining its oil tanker off the coast of Gibraltar last week will be announced soon. It comes after three vessels from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps tried to seize the British Heritage tanker as it was sailing through the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday. Iran's ships ordered the British vessel to divert its course and stop in Iranian waters, until Royal Navy frigate HMS Montrose trained its guns on the Iranians, prompting them to back off. The situation in the Persian Gulf stands on a knife-edge following bomb attacks on six tankers across May and June, then the shoot-down of an American drone by Iranian forces.
