Flash flood warnings are issued across Washington DC after unseasonable storms and heavy rain leave motorists stranded atop their cars on roads-turned-rivers and water gushing through Metro stations. A slow-moving rainstorm washed out roads, stranded drivers and soaked basements, including the White House's, during a chaotic morning commute in the Washington, DC, metro area. 'Numerous FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS are in effect. Flooding will likely impact normal commuting patterns. If water covers a roadway, FIND ANOTHER ROUTE!' the NWS warned in a tweet. πŸ’¦πŸ˜±

A giant sinkhole swallowed a minivan whole in Virginia, sending the car plummeting 20 feet below ground. Astonished onlookers watched β€” and recorded video β€” as a sinkhole opened up on a Dale City, Virginia, street Thursday night. Footage of the incident, posted on Facebook by Oscar Galdamez, shows the entire back end of the red Dodge Caravan already disappeared into the sinkhole, while the car appears to be hanging off the edge of the sinkhole, secured only by its front bumper. #wtf?

If the depression's winds reach 39 mph, it would become Tropical Storm Barry. "Regardless of development, this system has the potential to produce heavy rainfall along portions of the northern and eastern U.S. Gulf Coast later this week," the hurricane center said. πŸ’¦πŸŒͺ😱

Far out: Saturn will be 'nearby' on Tuesday, so you just might see its rings. Saturn is at "opposition" that day, meaning the planet and the sun are on opposite sides of the Earth, according to NASA. That also means the ringed planet is as close to the Earth as it gets all year long. You can recognize Saturn because it’s in your southeastern sky at dusk and nightfall, EarthSky said. It will be visible with the naked eye all night long, rising in the East around sunset and slowly making its way across the sky before setting in the West around sunrise, according to AccuWeather. πŸ”
