Officials are investigating the death of a Florida man whose partially-eaten body was discovered inside the stomach of an alligator. Police were called to a Mosaic phosphate mine in Polk County early Thursday morning, after an employee discovered human remains floating in a canal on the company grounds. A roadmap for colonising the galaxy is brought to life in a mesmerising animation that plots paths for future humanity's ships as they take settlers out among the stars. The model shows all the individual journeys that would be needed for a methodical series of migrations by giant colony vessels to 100,000 habitable star systems. Developed by Chinese experts, the simulation won a NASA competition to solve a 'nearly-impossible' mathematical puzzle of interplanetary trajectory design. #future
A win for public safety or a government ploy? California set to require background check for ammo sales. The bustle inside LAX Ammunition on the Friday before Fatherโ€™s Day betrayed the gloom of the outside sky. Employees inside the Los Angeles-area gun shop had their hands full chatting with customers who were looking to replenish their ammo supply before July 1, with some customers spending hundreds of dollars in the process. Why the hurry? Thatโ€™s the day a new state law will require almost all buyers to go through background checks before being able to buy bullets, potentially increasing the amount of time and money it takes to make purchases.

Cyprus was hit by a huge explosion last night after a Russian-made missile apparently strayed off course from Syria. The missile, believed to be a Syrian anti-aircraft weapon, exploded in Turkish-occupied northern Cyprus in the early hours of this morning, causing a huge mountainside blaze. Initial investigations suggested the missile was an S-200 model made in Soviet Union 1985 - a key ally of Syria and its leader Bashar al-Assad - and could have been knocked off course by jamming technology. Syrian forces had been using the missiles to fend off Israeli warplane attacks last night, but one of them appears to have missed its target and come down 200 miles away in Cyprus. ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ”ฅ
