根据发表《Nature Communications》期刊上的一项研究，锂离子电池成为 PFAS 污染日益增长的来源。PFAS（全氟烷基和多氟烷基物质）涵盖约 9000 种化合物，锂离子电池使用了名叫 bis-FASIs（bis-perfluoroalkyl sulfonimides）的物质，具有与其它 PFAS 物质相当的环境持久性和生态毒性。锂离子电池是清洁能源基础设施的重要组成部分，用于电动汽车和电子产品，未来十年其需求将呈指数级增长。研究人员表示，利用电动汽车等新技术减少二氧化碳排放至关重要，但不应该带来会增加 PFAS 污染的副作用。他们建议改进回收和处理技术。
