*UnitedHealth earnings top forecasts as Optum offsets higher medical costs*

UnitedHealth Group (UNH) - Get Free Report posted stronger-than-expected fourth-quarter earnings Friday as its Optum benefits division continued to power its top and bottom lines while offsetting a modest increase in medical costs. Adjusted profit for the three months ended in December came in at $6.16 a share, up 15.4% from the year-earlier period and 18 cents ahead of the Wall Street consensus forecast of $5.98 a share. Group revenue rose 14% to $94.4 billion, again topping analysts' estimates of a $92.4 billion tally. Optum revenue rose 24.2% to $59.5 billion. UnitedHealth's medical-cost ratio, meanwhile, was pegged 20 basis points (0.2 percentage point) higher at 83.2%, suggesting a modestly larger portion of its collected premiums were paid out on insurance claims. Overall premiums were up 13.2% to $73.23 billion while operating costs rose 14.3% to $86.74 billion. “UnitedHealth Group enters 2024 well prepared to build on our efforts to improve patient care and consumer experiences broadly, and to continue delivering strong and balanced growth,” Chief Executive Andrew Witty said in a statement. UnitedHealth shares, a Dow component, were marked 2.16% lower in premarket trading Friday immediately following the earnings release to indicate an opening bell price of $528 each.Action Alerts PLUS offers expert portfolio guidance to help you make informed investing decisions. *My husband has missed three of our four kids births. I want him to quit his damn job.*

My husband is amazing. He honestly is. I love him dearly. But oh my fucking god. I had our fourth baby three days ago. And I did it alone, like the past two, because he is always being called away to work. He's a firefighter which is notable, beautiful even. But fucking hell I hate his job so much. My kids are five, three, two and a newborn. My toddlers barely know their dad. My oldest could care less. Every single family event? "Sorry, they need me in." The birth of THREE OF OUR CHILDREN. His boss didn't give a flying fuck. With our third he missed my birth because he was coaching another woman through hers. I am so, so tired. I'm a single mom. He didn't meet our son until he was nine hours old. Held him once, went home to sleep, and is now back at fucking work. I'm a single mom. Sometimes I fantasise about us being a normal fucking family. One birthday party. One anniversary. One fucking family meal. I've sobbed and begged him to quit, to say no, to just do anything fucking else. But that makes me a selfish bitch, I guess. This is probably post partum depression. Again. Because I'm fucking alone and he's off helping other people. Can't complain because oh what he's doing is so amazing! I am so tired. I'm so sad. I don't know why the hell I thought I could do this again without him. I just want to experience a birth with my husband. submitted by /u/Any-Presentation7848 to r/TrueOffMyChest [link] [comments]
