*What's causing men to become more discouraged?*

Are men becoming more and more discouraged? Was talking with some family friend earlier today who were telling me how their 21 year old son is not actively looking for employment nor looking to go into post secondary and instead spends most of his time gaming and doing project work with 2 other friends that don't make any money. Made me realize the handful of "basement dwelling" type of people I know are all male, even in households where the parents have children of both genders. The daughters all seem to be more motivated, more social, and in general, a lot more proactive in their own success regardless of the household income levels. I even know of a couple who's had to push their retirement off as their 32 yr old son is content working a minimum wage job and gaming as the entirety of his lifestyle and can't realistically live on his own. Is there something causing men to become more and more discouraged at participating with society? I'm starting to worry about the trajectory of young men and how more and more frequent parents with sons in their late teens and early twenties talk to me about how completely undriven their sons are. Do parents just have higher expectations from their sons?
