*Catch and release fishing is stupid and cruel.*

As someone who legitimately fishes for sustenance (Alaskan trying to not be broke) it always rubs me the wrong way how catch and release (99% fly fishermen) folks have an air of superiority. As fishermen, we're all jamming a hook through an animal's head to drag them to shore. I'm at least doing it to feed myself and my family, and do it as quick as humanly possible. I often see fly fish bros prolonging the fight for soooo long, for no good reason - just to let the poor thing swim away. They spent 5 thousand dollars to come fish here and by God they're gonna get the most drama for the buck! I feel bad enough hurting these animals for food, I don't understand how anyone gets any sort of enjoyment out of torturing them purely for sport. People who fish healthy stocks of fish for food are far more ethical than catch and release fishermen. submitted by /u/citori421 to r/unpopularopinion [link] [comments]

The inquiry into whether Oklahoma City Thunder guard Josh Giddey had an inappropriate relationship with a minor has hit a roadblock. TMZ Sports has learned the alleged teen and her family are refusing to cooperate with officials. Law enforcement sources tell us police would obviously like to speak with the purported female and those close to her to gather more information regarding the social media claims that made rounds over the weekend ... but as of right now, no one is talking. https://www.tmz.com/2023/11/29/josh-giddey-police-inquiry-minor-family-wont-cooperate-alleged-underage-relationship/?adid=social-tws submitted by /u/Wonderful-Balance711 to r/nba [link] [comments]

*Here's how the Okta data hack was much worse than the company originally said*

Shares of password authenticator Okta (OKTA) - Get Free Report pared earlier losses Wednesday afternoon after a bombshell filing from the company sent the stock down more than 5% in early market trading. The data breach that the company disclosed last month was much more widespread than Okta first thought. Okta originally said that just 1% of its customers were affected by the hack, but now the company is saying to multiply that percentage by 100. Related: Jamie Dimon warns that it is a dangerous time for mankind "We have determined that the threat actor ran and downloaded a report that contained the names and email addresses of all Okta customer support system users," David Bradbury, Okta's chief security officer, said. "All Okta Workforce Identity Cloud (WIC) and Customer Identity Solution (CIS) customers are impacted except customers in our FedRamp High and DoD IL4 environments (these environments use a separate support system NOT accessed by the threat actor)." Okta shares were trading down 3.2% to $70.28 at last check Wednesday afternoon. The hacker (or hackers) ran a report on Sept. 28 seeking information from numerous fields including company name, address, mobile number and other things. But Okta says that for 99.6% of users in the report, the only information that could be gleaned was their full names and email addresses. Based on the information accessed, Okta says that there is an increased risk of phishing and social engineering attacks directed at those users. "Okta customers sign-in to Okta’s customer support system with the same accounts they use in their own Okta org. Many users of the customer support system are Okta administrators. It is critical that these users have multi-factor authentication (MFA) enrolled to protect not only the customer support system, but also to secure access to their Okta admin console(s)," Bradbury said. Okta also released its third-quarter earnings results on Wednesday. For the period ending Oct. 31, Okta earned an adjusted 48 cents per share on revenue that rose 21% year over year to $584 million. Analysts were expecting the company to report earnings of 30 cents per share on revenue of $560.6 million. But what's also pressuring the stock is the fact that Okta's revenue guidance for 2025 fell short of expectations. Okta is predicting at least 10% revenue growth for fiscal 2025 to between $2.46 billion and $2.47 billion, below estimates for 15% growth. Unlock the secrets of the stock market with Real Money Pro. *Amazon's Black Friday NFL ratings weren't great, but the $100 million price tag is still probably worth it*

Amazon's Black Friday game didn't light the world on fire — at least in terms of ratings. The Miami Dolphins visited the New York Jets for the league's first ever Black Friday game that aired at 3 p.m. Eastern Time and saw an averaged of 9.61 million viewers on Amazon Prime Video, according to Jacob Feldman of Sportico. Amazon's "Thursday Night Football" games averaged about 12.5 million viewers according to Nielsen report from the first week of November. The Black Friday viewership number — which Feldman said peaked at 11.2 million at 5 p.m. ET — was much lower than the 34.1 million average of the three games on Thanksgiving. Amazon's average viewership is a few million lower than the around 17 million and NFL game sees across networks on linear television, but the holiday viewership gap is stark especially considering the tech company paid $100 million to air the contest.Related: Amazon wants to turn the NBA into the NFL. Here’s how But according to Columbia University sports management professor Joe Favorito, the ratings aren't an indication that this was a failure for Amazon. "I think this is va tremendous first step," Favorito told TheStreet. "If you would have said to someone nine million people on the Friday after Thanksgiving are going to watch a streamed NFL game three years ago, people who have been jumping up and down." Favorito believes that this game plants the groundwork for how Amazon can further bring customization into the lives of people to enhance its full business beyond Amazon Prime. That could be worth the $100 million in a way that's unseen through just viewership numbers. "I would imagine if this was two years from now or next year, a Miami Dolphin fan in Coconut Grove is getting pushed different ads than a New York Jets fan sitting in his living room in New Jersey," Favorito said. "That customization for that audience is incredibly valuable."Related: YouTube shelled out a lot for the NFL and the early results are finally in Favorito sees a lot of other ways that the broadcast could evolve, including experimenting with the time slot that the game airs or adding more games. "Three o'clock is noon Pacific Time. So do you adjust that time? Do you do more research from all those people whose data you now have?" Favorito said. "They'll figure that out because they'll know when people are watching." He also sees this as a way that Amazon can open up to other sports moving forward, pointing out Amazon's potential to add the NBA especially with the basketball league's media rights deal changing after the 2024-25 season. "We'll probably see other sports trying to figure out how they can take advantage of actual Black Friday opportunities going forward," Favorito said. The NFL has a monopoly over sports during Thanksgiving day as both the NBA and NHL do not air any games on those days. But Black Friday is a new venture for the NFL, and the two other major sports leagues with seasons ongoing during this time have consistently played games on Black Friday.
