After bottoming out in 2022 at a low of around $100, shares of Tesla (TSLA) - Get Free Report have been on a strong run throughout 2023. The stock, more than doubled for the year, is up roughly 108%. Despite its strong performance for the year so far, the stock remains around 38% off of its 2021 all-time high share price of $407. The reason behind this gap, according to Tesla Bull and managing partner of the Future Fund Gary Black, has to do with the price cuts that have defined Tesla's competitive reaction throughout 2023. It also, as of October, pushed the average Tesla price down 25% year-over-year. "Interest rates have to come down," he said at the time. "If interest rates keep rising, you just fundamentally reduce affordability. It's just the same as increasing the price of the car." Black wrote in a Saturday post on X, however, that the gap between Tesla's current stock price and its all-time high is not, as Musk wants to believe, due to interest rates. It's due, instead, to Musk's reaction to interest rates: the price war. Tesla, he said, cut EV prices by 20% in the past year. Production volumes remained unchanged and earnings estimates plunged by about 40%. The company, he said, could have done other things to combat inflation, such as offering select inventory discounts or buying down loan payments to boost affordability. December seems to be the worst month to take a Caribbean cruise. Last year, I spent Christmas week on Celebrity Summit, and rough seas sent that relatively small ship bouncing up and down. It was the first time I had seen airsickness bags placed, not discreetly but everywhere. People were using them, and on the worst night I felt as if I had the main dining room to myself as I ate a leisurely meal. Royal Caribbean put airsickness bags out, but most people seemed to weather the storm. Passengers were somewhat disrupted because, for example, not closing your closet or bathroom door led to it slamming loudly and loose items left on counters might be knocked off. On that huge ship, however, the impacts were fairly minimal despite very bad weather.What it's like on a smaller Celebrity ship Currently, I'm writing this from the Cafe al Bacio coffee bar on Celebrity Apex. It's a larger Celebrity ship but about one-third smaller by passenger capacity than an Oasis-Class ship. The seas are rough enough that walking while sober feels a bit like walking after having a few adult beverages. The movement of the ship is very noticeable, and while I was lying in bed, I felt as if I were being rocked to sleep. Our captain has communicated about the choices being made to lessen the impact, and we will arrive at our first stop a few hours late. And once we arrive, we might not be able to dock. Apex is much larger than Summit but much smaller than Oasis. It's small enough that you can feel the movement, but large and modern enough that few passengers seem to be bothered. As a basic rule, the captain will prioritize safety above all else. We may miss ports, leave ports early, and even not get home as planned. That can lead to disappointment for passengers, but missing a port makes a lot more sense than putting people in danger. If you get motion sick easily, sail on the largest ships and avoid December as well as hurricane season. Otherwise, if you end up on an affected sailing, be kind to the crew. They did not cause you to miss swimming with the dolphins or your zipline adventure. Those decisions were made at the highest level. Plans to roll it out in 2023 were delayed by France's request to push it back to after the 2024 Summer Olympics taking place in Paris due to the country not being ready to start a new system during such a large inflow of visitors to the country. If you still visit a retail store in person for your everyday essentials, chances are good you visit a Walmart (WMT) - Get Free Report. Delta makes a big change to its beverage service

While the efforts to eliminate waste in how food and beverages are served dates back decades, it has been significantly more difficult to scale back plastic waste while up in the air. Porcelain plates and real silverware are generally used in business class (and commonly associated with luxury along with an earlier and more romantic era of flying) but the large number of passengers and confined kitchen space for washing make non-disposable serving materials infeasible for the majority aboard the plane.Related: New California Airport Ban Will Completely Change How You Travel That said, airlines have been competing to show how sustainable they are when it comes to the materials from which disposable utensils, food containers and cups are made. At the start of December, Delta Air Lines (DAL) - Get Free Report announced that it is fully eliminating plastic cups on all of its flights — whether meant to hold coffee, soft drinks or alcohol, the new serving vessels on Delta will be a new cup made entirely of paper the prototype for which the airline has spent the last few years developing.A cup that helps 'hot drinks stay hot and cold drinks stay cold' "Cups that airlines use on board need to make sure hot drinks stay hot and cold drinks stay cold while holding up to the dissolving properties of alcohol," the airline said in announcing the change. "Additionally, the cups need to be stackable within the galley carts already in use on aircraft, and be able to separate easily so flight attendants can efficiently serve our customers." Along with several competing airlines, Delta had previously committed to fully eliminating single-use plastics by 2025 and claims that the cup switch will reduce its plastic waste by seven million pounds or the weight of 1,300 pickup trucks. "One of the most important things about making long-term, sustainable changes is having the opportunity to test the new solutions and get real feedback from both our employees and our customers," Delta's Chief Sustainability Officer Amelia DeLuca said in a statement. "We constantly need to be testing, learning and iterating."Airports, airlines all working to reduce plastic use among travelers The efforts to ban plastic has also been trickling into what is sold on the ground at the airport — earlier this year, LAX joined San Francisco International Airport in requiring any water sold at the airport to come in cups or glasses, paper cartons or aluminum or glass bottles. The phase-out period took more than two years and came with the installation of water fountains that travelers can use to refill bottles they brought to the airport (due to the TSA's longstanding liquid rules, the only option for those who want to do this is to bring the bottle in through security empty and then fill it with water afterwards) but the change does not apply to other drinks such as Coca-Cola (KO) - Get Free Report or Pepsi (PEP) - Get Free Report products which are sold in plastic bottles. That restaurant was called Chuck E. Cheese Pizza Time Theatre, and while the name has gotten shorter since the day the first location opened its doors in San Jose, Calif., a lot of things about the iconic brand haven't changed much.Related: Chuck E. That's to its menu, which is going more artisan in an effort to appeal to parents who are tired of eating stiff, cardboard-esque pizza. The new items include four new "baked to order" pizzas, including a Signature Meatball, Homestyle BBQ Chicken, Spicy Hawaiian, and Spicy BBQ Piggy, as well as three new wing flavors (Buffalo BBQ, Louisiana Honey Hot, and Spicy Korean BBQ) and two new rubs (Lemon Pepper and Chili Lime). Chuck E. Cheese also announced a new dessert concept with celebrity chef Buddy Valastro earlier this year, which offers cake slices on Confetti, Vanilla Rainbow, and Chocolate Fudge. Since Chuck E. Cheese parent company CEC Entertainment filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in June 2020, the chain has tried a variety of things to stay afloat, including posing on Grubhub as Pasqually's Pizza & Wings in order to entice new customers. Cheese is working with investment bank Goldman Sachs "on an auction process that could attract private equity firms as well as peers such as Dave & Busters Entertainment," according to anonymous sources. Cheese, has told potential acquirers it expects to generate around $1.2 billion in revenue and $195 million in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) this year." Walmart makes a major change to prevent theft (some customers will hate it)

If you still visit a retail store in person for your everyday essentials, chances are good you visit a Walmart (WMT) - Get Free Report. With a location within 10 miles of 90% of the U.S. population, it's no wonder that it brought in $611 billion of revenue in fiscal 2023. A rise in interest rates following the pandemic and changing migratory patterns left some locations emptier than they'd been.
