*Legendary group adds residency off the Las Vegas Strip*

Las Vegas used to be the place where acts long past their prime went to trade off nostalgia. It was never Branson, Mo., bad where Ronnie McDowell, who had one minor hit in the 1970s, has been a long-running headliner, along with various Osmonds, who are neither Donny nor Marie, and long-forgotten "America, what a country" comedian Yakov Smirnoff. But in the 1980s and '90s the Las Vegas Strip did not offer the biggest stars in the world. Instead, many of the big rooms owned by Caesars Entertainment and MGM Resorts International featured only in-Vegas-style acts.Related: Huge country star signs to return for Las Vegas Strip residency You had Siegfried & Roy, David Copperfield and Penn & Teller along with Wayne Newton, Barry Manilow, Tom Jones, and of course, the big-name Osmonds, Donny and Marie. At the time, Las Vegas was more kitschy than current, and the biggest names might show up more in tribute shows like the long-running and recently ended "Legends in Concert" than on stage. That, of course, has changed. Las Vegas now hosts a mix of current performers like Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga, Miranda Lambert, Adele and, until recently, Katy Perry. These alongside nostalgia acts that remain current including Garth Brooks, Rod Stewart and even U2. Las Vegas has also become a major home for big-name DJs and electronic dance music stars as well as legendary R&B acts like Boyz II Men and Jodeci. It has not, however, been a major home for big-name hip-hop acts. That will change on Super Bowl weekend when one of the biggest name groups in hip-hop begins an unexpected Las Vegas residency. U2 has been playing a residency at the Las Vegas Sphere. Image source: Isaac Brekken/Getty Images Wu-Tang Clan headed to Las Vegas A Wu-Tang Clan Las Vegas residency is a surprise because anything the hip-hop collective does is surprising. The group, which consists of RZA, GZA, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, U-God, Masta Killa, Inspectah Deck, Cappadonna, and the dearly departed Ol’ Dirty Bastard (ODB) has performed only sporadically in recent years. The group never broke up, but it takes a lot to get the full collective together to perform or record. That will change with Wu-Tang Clan committing to multiple shows at The Theater at Virgin Hotels next year. “Wu-Tang Clan: The Saga Continues … The Las Vegas Residency” will first bow at The Theater on Feb. 9, with two performances scheduled for the days before Super Bowl LVIII at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Other concerts are set for March, coinciding with the end of the first round and beginning of the second round of March Madness 2024, according to a news release. Virgin Hotels tries to lure people from the Strip With the Las Vegas Strip offering such a dense cluster of massive resort casinos featuring some of the biggest acts in the world, it's a challenge to get people to venture off the Strip. Virgin Hotels, which sits about two blocks off the Strip, has used its 4,500-seat theater to try to get people to make the trip. The Theater in January will host everything from the comedian Marlon Wayans to a 1990s R&B nostalgia show featuring Ginuwine and Dru Hill along with a major boxing match promoted by Oscar De La Hoya. Virgin Hotels has also tried to attract a following with its all-suite format. "Whether you prefer to sleep in or step out, these digs provide the freedom to do your thing, whatever that may be," the Hilton-operated hotel says on its website. "Our lifestyle-focused chambers are split by a sliding set of privacy doors that creates two separate areas, one for rest and one for revival. With beds that surprise and delight, in-room treats, and a vanity to die for – no wonder we predict this to be your new place in the city."

*Netflix reveals what people are watching in new report*

TheStreet's J.D. Durkin brings the latest business headlines from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange as markets open for trading Wednesday, December 13th.Full Video Transcript Below: J.D. DURKIN: I’m J.D. Durkin - reporting from the New York Stock Exchange. Here’s what we’re watching on TheStreet today. Investors are looking ahead to the Federal Reserve’s final policy announcement of 2023. The central bank will release an interest rate decision at 2:00 pm Eastern Time, and Fed Chair Jerome Powell will take the stage at 2:30 as he fields questions from reporters in Washington. We will also be paying close attention to Powell’s comments as the Fed assesses a path forward for interest rates. Investors are pretty certain the central bank will hold rates steady once again – the last interest rate hike was in July. In other news - after streaming services pledged to be more transparent about what viewers are watching, Netflix is stepping up to the plate. As part of the new Writers Guild of America contract, streaming giants like Netflix and Disney Plus agreed to reveal not just what people are watching, but how long they’re watching. Netflix released its first report, called “What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report” - and intends to send out two a year. The report reveals hours watched for every title, premiere dates, and if it’s available internationally. The first report included 18,000 titles and measured views over the first six months of 2023. At the top of the list with more than 812 million viewing hours is “The Night Agent” Season 1, followed by “Ginny and Georgia,” Season 2 and “The Glory” Season 1 - both with over 660 million viewing hours. Of the report Netflix said quote “We believe the viewing information in this report — combined with our weekly top 10 and most popular lists — will give creators and our industry deeper insights into our audiences, and what resonates with them.” That’ll do it for your daily briefing. From the New York Stock Exchange, I’m J.D. Durkin with TheStreet.

*Cathie Wood snaps up 300,000 shares of air taxi stock Jim Cramer said to 'sell, sell, sell'*

Ark Invest on Tuesday bought 323,028 shares of Joby Aviation (JOBY) - Get Free Report, one of a handful of firms that is developing an all-electric air taxi. The purchase, valued at roughly $2 million, was made by Ark's Autonomous Tech and Robotics fund. The fund's holding in Joby now amounts to 2.29 million shares, valued at $14.6 million and weighted at 1.45% of the fund. Related: Archer Aviation CEO says Elon Musk has helped boost the air taxi industry Joby is not, however, Cathie Wood's only electric air taxi bet. The same ETF holds 7.7 million shares of Archer Aviation (ACHR) - Get Free Report, valued at nearly $50 million and weighted at 4.8% of the fund. The fund is led by a large holding in Tesla (TSLA) - Get Free Report, valued at more than $125 million and weighted at more than 12% of the ETF. Shares of Joby closed at $6.41, down 1.5%, on Tuesday. Though the stock is well off its June high of $11.98 per share, the stock is up 91% for the year. Jim Cramer, host of CNBC's "Mad Money," said in September that he would not recommend buying shares of Joby, for the sole reason that the company is "losing money hand over fist." "I'm going to say you should sell, sell sell," Cramer said. The stock has an average analyst price target of $8 per share, according to TipRanks. Reporting third-quarter earnings results Nov. 1, Joby reported a net income of $1.5 million against $128 million in operating expenses. The company reported an adjusted loss of $93 million for the quarter, a loss Joby said was reflective of its high operating expenses. The company said it had $1.1 billion in cash and short-term investments by the end of the quarter. Joby Aviation delivered one of its electric air taxis to the U.S. Air Force in September. Bloomberg/Getty Images Still, Joby said that about 85% of its certification plans have been accepted by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The company in September completed the delivery of one (of up to nine) aircraft to the U.S. Air Force as part of its $131 million contract with the Department of Defense. The company in September successfully performed an exhibition flight of one of its vehicles in New York City. “We plan to make quiet, emissions-free flight an affordable, everyday reality for New Yorkers, while significantly reducing the impact of helicopter noise," founder and CEO JoeBen Bevirt said at the time. Shares of Joby fell roughly 3.5% Wednesday morning. *Apple designer launches embarrassing (and effective) car theft deterrent*

Few cities are having a harder time in the U.S. right now than San Francisco. A rise in crime – including theft and what authorities have referred to as open air drug markets – has driven some folks and businesses out of the city. Related: Starbucks makes it easier for managers to make ordering harder It's also why office vacancy rates have stood at about 30% for months. Many San Francisco-based workers are in tech-enabled jobs, which allows them to work remotely. High costs of living and an ongoing housing shortage also contributes to homelessness for those who can't afford high rent, and those who don't need to be in the city every day have moved out. One of the biggest issues remains car theft. In 2022, San Francisco reported 22,000 unique incidents of car theft. Some celebrities have tried defending their run-ins with car theft, with mixed results. "I don’t personally view my car as an extension of myself and I’ve never really felt violated any of the 15 or so times my car was broken in to," comedian Seth Rogen tweeted at someone whose car had been broken into. You can be mad but I guess I don’t personally view my car as an extension of myself and I’ve never really felt violated any of the 15 or so times my car was broken in to. Once a guy accidentally left a cool knife in my car so if it keeps happening you might get a little treat.— Seth Rogen (@Sethrogen) November 25, 2021 But since the issue has now been going on for years, other creative minds are taking the problem more seriously.Former Apple designer crafts solution to car theft So a former Apple designer Mark Rober, who now runs CrunchLabs, worked with his team to design an anti-theft mechanism that can deter thieves. The product is a glitter bomb, and, while technically harmless, it does a lot in the way of preventing crime. It stows away in a seemingly low-profile item a thief might want to break into a car to steal: backpacks, purses, handbags, or luggage. After the thief has broken into the car and is walking away with his or her item, the glitter bomb explodes biodegradable glitter and foul-smelling spray all over the perpetrator. Rober claims his product has claimed 29 thieves to date, and a video on his YouTube page demonstrating the efficacy of the product has garnered 13 million views in just four days. "These guys just broke into my car in San Francisco and stole my backpack," Rober explains in the video. "But what they'll soon find out is thanks to some high tech glitter and fart spray delivery mechanisms, that's no ordinary backpack." Rober says the entire glitter bomb solution came about after he had a package stolen from his front porch. "Which inspired me to combine my engineering skills with my Christmastime affinity for Kevin McAllister. Then, when his own car was broken into in San Francisco, he went to work on a new glitter bomb (complete with highly compressed CO2) to deter theft and understand who was behind the crimes. Rober found that over 80% of his break-ins were by individuals, as opposed to groups of thieves. Currently, Rober's product is not available for sale, though perhaps it is having an effect on crime in the city by deterring thieves with sensitive noses.
